Eat for life

Eat for life

For some people, food is just fuel to keep their bodies going. They may have several things they like, they're fine with that, and that's OK so long as they are reasonably healthy. Some have little to no sense of taste or smell. For a few, food may even frighten them. Some people with autism spectrum diagnoses have very strong food aversions and are scared witless of trying a new food, for example. Others just don't care, just give them as much food as they need to eat and they don't particularly notice the flavor.

Other people consider food to be more than fuel. It is art for the taste buds. Commonly they are supertasters, but not always. They enjoy the difference between the crunch of the pastry layer surrounding a creamy baked brie, the fresh tang of a Mutsu apple between bites of that brie... well, I could talk about food for ages. There are a few people who try many foods more for the diplomacy or the trendiness factors than for the food itself, and in truth I feel for them--because they are pushing themselves to be something they aren't, and it might backlash.

You'll find a lot of people between these poles, but generally speaking the more time you have to savor your food, the more likely you are to enjoy it. You notice a lot less when you're rushed, so take your time on that nice meal.
